Grant glanced at the piece of paper. It wasn’t his resume. It was a printout of a court order—child support, a repayment schedule, and a note from last month that he’d missed another payment.
His whole face went blank.
My father didn’t raise his voice. “Mr. Ellis, your application listed ‘high reliability and honesty’ as key characteristics,” he said. “But your record shows repeated failures to fulfill your responsibilities to your child.”
Grant’s eyes flashed. “It’s personal.”
