An ordinary bus journey turned into a moment I will never forget.

The bus lurched through the afternoon traffic. Sitting with one hand gently placed on my belly, I felt the steady, gentle kicks of the baby growing inside me.

Seven months pregnant, I was exhausted but filled with profound joy, imagining the life that lay ahead. When an elderly woman boarded, clutching her purse and searching for a seat among the crowded rows, I immediately stood up and offered her mine.

Surprised, she paused for a moment, then smiled gratefully and sat down. I didn’t pay much attention to it—another kind gesture on a long day—but I had no idea it would become unforgettable.

During the journey, I occasionally felt her gaze on me—not in judgment, but with a kind of tender recognition, as if my presence were stirring up some hidden memory. As the bus slowed and stopped, she carefully gathered her belongings. Just before exiting, she leaned toward me and slipped something into my coat pocket. “Take care, darling,” she murmured before the door closed behind her, leaving me confused and curious.
